Intelligence Steward
The Intelligence Steward holds the technical and data-side intelligence of the system. They make sure technology makes people more able to work: information is findable, systems support the work, AI prepares and people decide. AI and automation contribute at every level, inside the organisation and inside value creation.
Effort: 10 to 20 %, depending on the size of the organisation
Outcome
- The digital workplace runs reliably; tools and support make people more able to work rather than busier.
- Information and data are findable, accessible and of reliable quality.
- AI and automation use cases are known, classified and supervised; AI prepares, people decide.
- Shadow IT and unclear AI use never arise, because the official path is the easiest one.
- AI and automation accelerate value creation; the outcome accountability for that stays in F.
- The measurement infrastructure delivers neutrally and reliably; measurement authority stays with S.
Fields
- IT operations and digital workplace
- Infrastructure, support, devices, collaboration tools, telephony, implementation of information security and data protection.
- Data
- Data architecture, data quality, data access, reporting and BI infrastructure.
- AI and automation, organisation
- AI tools for the workforce, use-case inventory, process and workflow automation with and without AI; everything that makes the organisation more efficient and more able to work.
- AI and automation, value creation
- AI and automation in products, services and delivery. Digital offerings run AI-supported wherever possible and make the client more efficient.
Design and execution
| Field | The Steward designs | Execution sits with |
|---|---|---|
| IT operations and digital workplace | Frame of the tool landscape: standards for devices, collaboration and support quality, implementation frame for information security and data protection | IT operations and digital workplace anchor. The normative side of security and data protection sits in S |
| Data | Guardrails of the data architecture: quality standards, access logic, standards of the reporting infrastructure | Data anchor: data architecture, data quality, access, reporting and BI infrastructure as a neutral tool supplier. Measurement authority sits with S |
| AI and automation, organisation | AI guardrails: human centered AI (AI prepares, people decide), autonomy levels, use-case criteria, inventory logic, bias watch (automation bias, confirmation bias and status-quo bias are reviewed per use case), exit strategy per dependency | Anchor for AI and automation in the organisation: AI tools, use-case inventory, process and workflow automation. Process responsibility stays with the respective core job |
| AI and automation, value creation | Frame for AI in value creation: the same AI guardrails plus criteria along the product and service lines | Anchor for AI and automation in value creation: enables the lines in F, accelerates delivery and product development. The outcome accountability for products and services stays in F |
Proposed Anchor Core Jobs
- IT operations and digital workplace
- Infrastructure, support, devices, collaboration tools, telephony, implementation of information security and data protection. The normative side sits in S, physical infrastructure with internal services in F. Software development as a business activity belongs to value creation in F.
- Data
- Data architecture, data quality, data access, reporting and BI infrastructure. Measurement authority with S, measurement infrastructure with I. Knowledge content sits with M; I supplies the platform.
- AI and automation, organisation
- Human centered AI, AI tools for the workforce, use-case inventory and review against the criteria, process and workflow automation with and without AI.
- AI and automation, value creation
- AI and automation in products, services and delivery. Enables the lines in F and strengthens value for money. With several lines, one core job per line under this anchor.
Powers at design level
- Sets the guardrails, frames and degrees of freedom of their letter; they take effect immediately.
- Holds the veto when a new core job breaks the guardrails.
- Cuts the anchor structure of their letter; new core jobs are created together with governance.
- Holds the bias watch as a guardrail: automation bias, confirmation bias and status-quo bias are reviewed for every use case, and every dependency has a documented exit.
Drift protection
The typical failure mode of I is the brake: a central unit that wants to approve every tool, maintains technology for its own sake and builds what others need. This steward accelerates and enables; the official path stays the easiest one, and implementation sits with the core jobs. Two limits always hold: the human leads and AI prepares. The power over value creation stays in F; I supplies the capability, F owns the product.
Competencies
- Technology understanding
- judges AI, data, internal IT and automation without becoming the implementation.
- Business and process understanding
- picks up problems from the organisation and translates them into testable requirements.
- Information architecture
- shapes findability, data quality and standards, connected with F and M.
- AI oversight
- keeps autonomy levels, inventory and the human decision safe.
- Risk judgement
- checks use cases against clear criteria and makes risk visible.
Strengths
- Judgement and foresight
- sees the benefit, risk and long-term consequences of data, AI and automation decisions.
- Curiosity and openness
- stays technologically awake without chasing every trend.
- Drive without building it themselves
- gets things moving without mixing implementation and approval.
- Clarity of criteria
- decides traceably and explains rejections cleanly.
- Integrity
- guards against shadow IT and against AI as hidden decision power.
